The Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting (1679) is an instructional manual that catalogues various painting styles by reknowned Chinese masters up to the 17th century. The manual, which was a pedagogical tool for aspiring painters, comprises of chapters, including Book of Trees, Book of Rocks, and Book of People and Things, etc. Through a process inflected with humour, disparate images from these various chapters were collaged together to produce images that are in themselves about image-production.
